Home Safes: Wall Safe and Other Places to Hide Money at Home
68With the way things have been with the economy in the last several years, more and more people seem to be opting for cash as their financial security instead of investments. Having cash on hand can be good and bad for obvious reasons.
If you’re going to stash cash in your home (or other valuables) then you need to put it in a safe place. You have several options of places to hide money at home, the most obvious being home safes, like wall safes. There are many types to choose from that will give you peace of mind. An added benefit to these is that they can fireproof your money and/or valuables.
Now, if you’re looking for less expensive ways to hide your cash that won’t leave your stash vulnerable, there are many creative ways of doing that. Here are a few great ways of hiding money:
TIP:
In case you die or disappear, unless you don’t want anyone to have your valuables, you may want to tell a trusted family member or friend about your stash location or at least leave a clue.
TAMPON BOX
When I heard this tip I thought it was a great one. Stash your cash in the box and make sure to leave some tampons in the box to make it look authentic. Of course we’re not talking about very large amounts here, but you can easily tape a nice wad of cash inside this box. Unless a lot of thieves are reading this, most won’t even think of looking in a tampon box. On that note, most husbands/boyfriends wouldn’t either…..hmmmmm!
TENNIS BALL
Invest in a can of tennis balls. Take one ball, cut it open (just a couple of inches or less) and stuff your valuables inside. If the contents are jewelry or something that would make noise when shaken, stuff some tissue paper or tissues in with the items to hide the rattling. Put the ball back in the original tube between the other two balls.
IN GROUND
Who hasn’t seen this hiding place in a movie or two? That doesn’t make it a bad idea – the key is to dig deep and remember where you dug the hole and stashed your cash. Also, to protect your money from the elements use a PVC pipe – not only will it keep away the elements, it will prevent underground creatures from getting at it and it’ll prevent the ground from caving in too!
FAKE DRAIN
This one involves some know-how. Constructing a false drain in the garage or basement will give you a great place to stash a pipe full of cash. Just in case someone who doesn’t know about it decides to use the drain for real, make sure whatever you’re hiding is in a waterproof bag!
FREEZER
This is another one I’ve seen in the movies, yet it’s still a great place to stash a wad of cash in that used pizza box!
ELECTRICAL OUTLET
Don’t use a real electrical outlet! If you’re handy, a quick trip to Lowes or Home Depot can get you started creating a false one to stash your cash in…..or buy a premade one ---->

BAD PLACES TO HIDE YOUR MONEY:
-
Under the mattress – too obvious; thieves usually always look here.
-
Toilet tank – again, obvious (seen a mob movie lately?)
-
Purse – some people think this is a good hiding place, especially for someone with a large collection of them, but it’s just too out in the open – make thieves work for it!
