Homemade Valentines Day Presents - Handmade Gifts

Whether you are wanting to save money this Valentine’s Day or just show off your creative side, a homemade Valentines Day present can be something your loved one will treasure for a long time.  Homemade presents can be very easy, but some can be slightly difficult, depending on your comfort level and how much experience you have “crafting.” 

No matter if you have a lot or a little experience or ability, I think the recipient of a homemade Valentine’s Day gift is a very lucky person who would be flattered to receive such a present.

Below are a few great (in my opinion) craft ideas for home made Valentine’s Day presents:

Keepsake envelope folders – Over the centuries, envelopes have contained many secrets and professions of love, so it’s appropriate to use a group of them to store old letters and treasured notes, or to fill them with trinkets for your valentine.

Fold the flaps back on all but one of the envelopes you want to join (I used 4 envelopes, but you can use as many as you like). Stack the envelopes open side up, with the unfolded flap on the bottom. Moisten the folded flaps and affix each one to the envelope behind it. Punch a hole in the bottom center of all the envelopes and thread a beautiful ribbon through the holes. Insert keepsakes in envelopes, fold last flap over and tie ribbon around it.  Decorate the outside however you desire.

Bonbon-filled hearts – Surprise a loved one with a hanging heart-shaped container full of candy.  Here’s how:  1. Fold and unfold a square of plain or patterned lightweight card stock to score it as pictured.  2. Fold the cardstock in half vertically, and open.  3. Fold it horizontally.  4. Open.  5. Draw two opposite corners of the square inward, tucking in the other two corners.  6. Trace the heart template at right.  7. Slide fold A behind fold B.  8. Hold in place.  Use a hole punch to pierce both, thread a ribbon through and tie.  Fill both sides of the heart with candy.

Love Coupon Book - Either by hand (if you have good handwriting) or on your printer, use a fancy font to print out a collection of coupons with wording such as "This coupon good for ..."

Ideas for coupons include:

• one night on the town
• breakfast in bed
• one foot massage
• one back massage
• unlimited hugs
• unlimited kisses
• one candlelight dinner
• completion of a household chore of your choice

Be sure you leave enough space between each to cut out a rectangle around it. If you're computer savvy, include small graphics, such as hearts alongside the wording. You could also skip this step and just cut out coupons from cardstock as indicated in the next step and write right on them as your coupons.

With a lightweight cardstock (red or pink), cut out equal size rectangles large enough to fit the printed out coupons and slightly larger. Mat the coupons on the pieces of cardstock that are slightly bigger than the coupons so you can see the edges of the cardstock around the coupon.

Make a hole with a hole punch in the upper left corner of each coupon. Thread ribbon through the holes and tie in a bow. Give love coupons to someone you love.
