Melissa and Doug Wooden Food Sets for Kids
63
As far as I can tell, Melissa and Doug can do no wrong. And I'm not the only one - just have a look at the rave reviews for their toys on Amazon - very impressive! I have yet to come across a toy by Melissa and Doug that is not a great toy. They are not only educational toys that kids love to play with, but they are very well made - sturdy and (mostly) indestructible!
My kids have a ton of play food, and they always seem to prefer their Melissa & Doug play food - they are always making me very high-stacked wooden sandwiches and snacks!
Many of the sets come with self-contained storage boxes, which makes for easy clean-up and organization. There are enough Melissa and Doug play food sets to fill an entire play kitchen refrigerator and pantry! Check 'em out below...
Melissa and Doug Food Groups
These are colorful and realistic (as real as you can get with wood!) and almost look good enough to eat.
All of these sets include the wooden storage box - a huge plus for easily tidying up. The 4-food group set includes 21 pieces and each food group is in its own crate and the crates can easily stack.
The fruits crate includes 8 favorite fruits: an apple, lemon, nectarine, banana, plum, orange, pear and two strawberries.
The vegetable crate includes 8 veggies: a tomato, cucumber, red pepper, onion, potato, carrot and ear of corn.
Melissa and Doug Sandwich Making Set
This sandwich set includes 16 pieces, each of which has a velcro insert, so sandwiches can be stacked sky-high and stay together.
Melissa and Doug Party Sets
These are a huge hit in my house and barely does a day go by without it being someone's birthday! Both of these sets come in a sturdy wood container that has a clear lid - easily stores all of the pieces when not in use.
The birthday cake includes a serving plate, 6 slices of cake, 7 candles, 19 toppings and a wooden spatula.
The pizza party set includes over 50 toppings (!), six slices of pizza, serving plate, pizza slicer and a server. The kids love to make, bake and serve up the pizza alongside the cake.
Melissa and Doug Cutting Food Sets
These cutting food sets can literally entertain the kids for hours! All of the pieces are large and smooth, thereby very safe, even the play knife. The food pieces are held together with small velcro dot inserts and when the knife is used to "slice" them, it makes a realistic crunch/cutting sound!
Kids enjoy taking apart and slicing up all the pieces and then putting everything back together. It's a great way for kids to learn about spacial relationships and improve their hand-eye coordination.
Melissa and Doug Cookie Set
This set is so adorable! It includes a baking sheet, 12 cookies, 12 cookie toppings, an oven mit, a spatula, a knife and a sturdy cardboard tube to store the cookies in. In my kids' play kitchen, this is probably the most used set of all!
The kids pretend to bake and then decorate and serve their cookies. It's a great learning tool, too - use it to practice counting, sorting, stacking and hand-eye coordination.
Melissa and Doug Fridge and Pantry Sets
Teach kids what foods go in the refrigerator, the freezer and the pantry with these great sets of "staples."
The fridge set includes 8 pieces and the pantry set includes 9 pieces of realistic looking products.
Melissa and Doug Sushi and Stir Fry
Let your kids experience different cultures and foods with these two great sets!
The sushi set includes three types of rolls that come with shrimp, tuna and salmon roe, and more condiments, as well as a cleaver and set of chop sticks.
The stir fry set includes a wooden wok (non-stick!), meat, red pepper, bok choi, shrimp, mushrooms, snow peas, a knife and chop sticks. Chop it all up and stir fry up some dinner!
Melissa and Doug Grill Set and Condiments
This grill set includes skewers to make 3 kabobs over the "hot" grill. also includes a wooden knife and tongs to safely cook and serve the kabobs!
This set of 5 easy to grasp bottles include salad dressing, olive oil, tomato ketchup, jam and hot dog mustard. Each bottle has a magnetic lid that color coordinates with the bottle.
A Place for Everything...
You may have some of the items above or are considering buying some and you may, then, be thinking: "Where would I store all this stuff?" Well if your kids enjoy pretend play with food and kitchen items then for sure they would love to play with it all together with a play kitchen or food stand! Not only are these great for pretend play but they function as storage also! My kids have the Kidcraft large kitchen (shown below) and they love playing with it. The best part is that it has so much room to store all of their pretend food and kitchen toys - and it's almost all behind closed doors, so the clutter of toys is hidden but still organized....a win/win situation in my book!
