What’s the latest craze amongst kids?  Easy:  Silly Bandz!  It’s all the rage with kids in elementary school, but it doesn’t stop there.  I’ve been seeing many a grown up going about their business with a couple of Silly Bands on their wrist (I’m assuming – and hoping – that their Silly Bandz came from their kids)!  Kids are collecting these shaped rubber bands like crazy and they trade them like baseball cards.  Parents love them because they are so affordable!

If you are not familiar with what Silly Bandz are, well there’s not long drawn-out definition or explanation – they are rubber bands that come in different shapes and colors.  They usually come in packages of ten to twenty-four (or more) and will normally contain about five different shapes, two or more of each.  Most come in packages that are themed, such as “fruits”, “princesses”, “rock star”, “baseball”, and many, many more themes. 

In fact, it has become so popular that at the elementary school that my daughter will be starting kindergarten at in a few short weeks they have all but banned Silly Bandz! Actually, in the Kindergarten handbook that I was given when we visited the school, it specifically states, under the dress code section: "Rubber Band Bracelets: We have had several requests from teachers to make a school rule regarding rubber band bracelets, of Silly Bandz. Many teachers express that the bracelets are disrupting their classroom and becoming too much of a distraction. Therefore, we now have a new school rule that limits children to having only one rubber band bracelet per day at school."

These rubber band bracelets can be found in many stores these days, but few places have them at a price equal to or lower than the prices at Amazon, nor do many places have the selection that you can find there. When I first learned about these, I thought it was rather silly. But I have discovered that my kids love them, too, and they get very excited to get new ones and most of the time I don’t mind getting more for them because they are so inexpensive compared to most other toys out there!
