Snow White Movie DVD Out Of The Disney Vault...Get it Before it Goes Back!
That’s right, after a long TEN years, Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs DVD and Snow White Two-Disc Blue-ray/DVD Combo were released from Disney’s Vault!
Are you wondering what the heck the Disney Vault is, anyway? Well, it’s not an actual vault; it’s a “process” that Disney started to control their market and to allow their movies to be new and fresh for new generations of kids. Frustrating for Disney and film fans alike, but a genius – some may say – marketing strategy.
This re-releasing of films actually began with the 1937 reissue of Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs in 1944. Reissues used to be every 7 years (same time gap as their theatrical reissues), but, since the transition to DVD technology, the moratorium period was increased to 10 years.
Once they are ready to re-release a movie, TV commercials galore will advertise it and will make sure to let you know that it will be available “for a limited time only”, after which it will go back “into the vault” and won’t be available again for many years.
While this may be a great marketing strategy for Disney, the side effect for consumers is that it opens up the market to counterfeit DVDs, and it raises the price of the real ones that are floating around at places like Ebay because they become “collectibles.”
